Signs of late summer
This afternoon we went for a walk through the local wildlife area. It is definitely showing signs of late summer with ripening elderberries, black berries, sloes, fruits of the guelder rose, and these fruits of the wayfaring tree (Viburnum lantana). They turn from green, through red, to dull black, as they mature. I like the look of them best when they are still shiny red, as here.
I noticed that the fruit on the Mirabelle plum trees has all disappeared. I hope birds had them, rather than humans.
