Games afternoon

It had rained all day which did not bode well for #2 daughter and family who arrived to pick up the van to stay the night at Paxton House. The boys are an intrepid pair and played out in the downpour at the adventure playground there.

Ella and Nathaniel weren’t keen to go to the woods so we unearthed some of the old board games Mr C and I had when we lived in Hong Kong and Cyprus with no TV. This one is Game of Life which Nathaniel won easily. He got very excited when money just fell into his lap. But he said he didn’t need it all so would give it to the poor people. When he had to pay tax he said that was ok as we’d get schools and hospitals. I wish some adults had his social conscious. We played Monopoly but they didn’t enjoy that so much. He loves Risk but luckily we didn’t have time for that.

Ella and I decorated the cake I made for her mum’s recent birthday and also for my niece’s. There’s 12 days between them in age.

We had roast potatoes with coke slaw and a roast veg tart for tea. (Happily we had no ill-effects from the foraged wild mushrooms which last night I’d made into a spinach, quark and kale lasagne with mushroom sauce.)

We’ll watch The Chair on Netflix after they go to bed. Lucy Mangan gave it 4 stars.
