60

It's my birthday, #60. I got up this morning to find this bouquet of flowers along with a gift and card on the kitchen table. Tom had placed them there the night before. This horse vase came home with my mom from the hospital with me in 1953. I always think of her today when I see this goofy little thing, and Tom always gets it out on my birthday. The other thing is the photo (that's me in the middle), taken 50 years ago today, March 20, 1963, with my buddies Tommy Gruwell (now in Idaho I think), Greg Campbell (last I heard in Eugene), David Reiser (last time I saw him, he was kicking my a$$ on Linnell Street), and Tom Hindman (in Connecticut I think).

The road leading up to 60 was difficult, and I can honestly say I dreaded this day coming around. Then today came, and even though it was a cold and rainy Northwest day, the skies parted and all was right. It's a beautiful thing. I want to write some more about it, and I think I will this weekend. I also wanted to post some music with this as a soundtrack for it, but I don't know if it will happen. For now, let me say this has been a terrific day. Welcome, 60!
