Diary of an Edinburgher

By LadyMarchmont

Back home!

For our last morning we had two breakfasts. Coffee and croissant for me, healthy bowl of coconut yoghurt, fruit and granola for JR. Then, as we wandered back to get our suitcases at the hotel, we passed the Skinny Kitchen which was very near us and we’ve passed it many times, but this time we stopped, and were tempted in by the sweetcorn fritters and the welcoming staff. Also - there was no raucous music blasting out - there’s a live DJ in the evenings. But because we’d already had a breakfast, we shared it. The diet started immediately.

We took the bus down to King’s Cross, about 7 minutes. I wish we’d taken the bus when we arrived, as it took us (me) about 40 minutes - it was uphill all the way… Buses are easy now, because you can use your card, and don’t have to do a complicated top-up on the Oyster card.

We didn’t have a cultural visit to London this time.  We wanted to go and see Bill Bailey, but he had finished the day before we arrived, and we really would have loved to have gone on the (free) Abbey Road (recording studios) Open House, which was all week. Instead, we had a culinary visit. Fabulous.

The train journey passed pleasantly enough because we both listened to podcasts. And we arrived in Edinburgh on a lovely sunny evening, with good weather promised for this week. We did well with the weather!

Archie was deliriously happy to see us gave us his usual low-key welcome.
