Bolsover Castle

Only a few miles from Hardwick, Bolsover was built by the grandson of Bess of Hardwick. It’s almost a fairytale castle, definitely a rich man’s plaything.
Unique is the indoor Spanish riding school and in this picture are the ruined buildings of the terrace range. This range has a lot in common with the design of Hardwick. It would have been magnificent in its day.
We rejoined English Heritage so we might be visiting a lot more of their properties in the coming months.
