Mer-mazing day

I had a lunch date today with my new boss and very nearly missed it!

I was ready early, so thought I’d set off and have a look round the garden centre (where we’d agreed to meet) so that I’d be there for when he arrived.

What I didn’t count on was a lovely lady who decided she wanted to know all about me and my leg.
Not content with my polite smile and the short version of the story ‘I fell from the loft’, she told her husband, who then started telling everyone else! They both followed me round the plants until I was cornered and in the space of 20 minutes she knew all about my accident and I knew all about her cancer, their cruises round the Caribbean, her only son (‘he’s 30 but still a pain in the arse’) and how her husband fell over his shoelace in the garden chasing a rabbit.
They were actually really sweet, but I was conscious of the time and just couldn’t get away. Luckily, I was saved by the bell when boss man called to say he’d arrived.

We had a lovely (2 hour) lunch, though I couldn’t really eat and talk. We’ve bashed out the finer details and high-fived on it. I start there in 5 weeks time.

I decided to call at my Mum’s on the way home and as an added bonus, Theia was there.
She decided my ‘new leg’ would like to be a mermaid, so I had to don the fishtail blanket, while she stomped around in my boot. There’s never a dull moment!

Her reading is coming on really well, she read me two stories, then decided she’d had enough. Mum has enrolled her at the library, so she can take out a few books every week over the holidays to practice her reading. It seems to be working.

Before I left, she appeared with her guitar to sing me a song she made up about the thunder. It was hard to keep a straight face; I knew if I made eye contact with my Mum we would both lose our composure, so we had to grit our teeth and cover our mouths until the song finished.

By the time I got home, I was knackered! That’s quite enough excitement for one day :-)
