Oor Very own Liver Birds
Sing along if you can.
"Whats got four legs, walks peculiar
Talks with all the choicest words
What's got four arms, loves to grab you
Answer is two Liver Birds"
I'm sure most of you aren't old enough, but does anyone remember where these lyrics are from?
The answer, if you don't know, is it's the opening verse to "The Liver Birds" sung by Liverpool band Scaffold, and was the theme tune of the BBC comedy of the same name.
The series charted the ups and downs of two 'dolly birds' sharing a flat in Liverpool and centred around the problems encountered by the two young single women when dealing with boyfriends, work, parents and each other.
It was compulsive viewing back in its day, as it was a kind of female version of "Men Behaving Badly" as the pair got up to high jinx that was never ending and everyone had their favourites.
If you favoured dark haired girls then Sandra, was the girl for you, if you could put up with her attempts as being "posh" while Beryl was the one who caught your eye if you preferred blondes.
So why am I going on about the Liver Birds?
Well it appears The Kiltwalk have tour very own "Liver Birds" in Jo Rands above and Niki Curry (see 15th February). Jo, originally born down South and now living in Blantyre claims her Scouse heritage is due to drinking the bars in Liverpool dry while she was a Student Nurse based down there, while Niki is the real deal, including the accent and Everton flag, the choice of real Scousers she tells us.
Our Liver Birds or Beryl and Sandra as they're now known, are taking part in this year's Hampden to Loch Lomond Kiltwalk and no one was more surprised than they were when they registered for 2013, three days after finishing last year's walk, when they swore to "never take part again".
Jo and Niki who unlike Beryl and Sandra are happily married, still have plenty in common with the 'Auld Liver Birds' as based on some of the pictures we've seen over the last 12 months, they like to party and are up for a challenge and a laugh.
The challenge they decided to embark upon was the "recognisible landmark" one and as you can see here Jo is proudly posing with one of our Scottish Kings, no girls, not Duncan Ferguson who is a Stirling lad and Everton here, it's Robert the Bruce :-)
Hope the training goes well and look forward to seeing you cross that finishing line again. Shaun have you got the camera ready?
