Grindon Spire
Phew! That was a challenge of a walk. Navigationally and physically too. Anyone would think we'd scaled Everest! All we'd done was take on a walk that was very overgrown and the paths were not particularly visible. Our boots and trousers, up to our knees, were sodden by the end of the walk, but we'd hardly had any rain.
We started in the village of Grindon, in The Peak District, made our way to Onecote via the village of Ford. Then we scaled the dizzy heights of Butterton Moor. Our final village was the picturesque village of Butterton, a doubly thankful village, before returning to Grindon.
We had drizzle and sunshine, friendly sheep and a tractor rally. And plenty of butterflies and bees. Not a walk I think we'd repeat in high summer, when the grass is so long, but one where we saw no other walkers. So you could say we had The Peak District to ourselves for much of the day. Marvelous!
