Alas poor West Riding.

We are currently staying in the  beautiful village of Whixley which lies between Harrogate and York. This street sign in the village has some age to it, given that "Yorks  W. R." (Yorkshire West Riding) ceased to exist in 1974. The West Riding was one of the three historic subdivisions of the county of Yorkshire.
