All Steamed Up

There is a saying 'You wouldn't put a dog out in this', alluding to the kind of weather that greeted us this morning.

It was so horrible as we gazed out of the windows, fascinated by the angled wet snow driving across the Meadows into the faces of the unlucky commuters, that we thought to challenge ourselves, dress like Mallory and Nanouk of the North and make a foray to Morningside's M&S.
This sortie would allow us the luxury of a warm seat in a nearby cafe to watch the world go by outside the steamed up windows.

The Nanouk of the North hat is the warmest one I've owned since I wore an angora lined pixie hood as a six year old.
It is one of those tweed balaclava type things with furry ear flaps and a facility for fastening it under the chin.
It was bought in Shetland last year by His Lordship who was less worried about how he looked up there in the frozen north than he does in the soft climated Central belt.

I have purloined it because it is just the job for zero degrees and in your face snow; there's also the fact that I'm getting to be old enough to stare back should anyone pay too much attention to my slightly eccentric look. All the same, His Lordship better not smirk.......
