Moffat Road

The usual route off the M74 to get to Edinburgh is to come up the A702.

However, a much much nicer drive is to be had if you come off a few junctions down and drive through the pretty town of Moffat and then drive up through the valley that the A701 winds through.

I have driven this road at ridiculous speeds on motorbikes and cars over the years, but I guess I am getting old as I enjoyed just pootling up to Edinburgh at a sedate 50-60 mph just revelling in the beauty of the scenery.

I would like to think it's a great run for fast jets - Moffat must make a great turning point and the route through the valley in something like a Tornado or a Hawk must be fantastic.

You'd pop out east of the Edinburgh Control Zone and then be able to transit directly across Fife towards Leuchars - back in the day when Leuchars was an RAF base, and not Army as it is now!

I wonder if cbimages ever flew this route....
