Floppy Takes the Gold!
One of the new events this year in the AOG is the Peanut-shucking race wherein the athlete must shell as many peanuts as possible within the designated time. Well, as you might imagine, the members of Team Blue Jay completely disqualified themselves when they grabbed peanuts and flew off - perhaps thinking this was a relay event. Even the other members of Team Chippie didn't seem to really understand the rules. Except for Floppy (so named for his damaged left ear), who cleared out his stack of 5 whole peanuts in a record 62 seconds, pouching all nuts as he shucked them. It was amazing to see his focus and concentration, not to mention his skill in knowing right where to chew through the shells! He was on his last peanut when he quickly looked up and gave me a little nod.
In other AOG news, Team Swallowtail was in the practice arena working on the Nectar Snogging time trials. You can see the Captain, Horatio, HERE on Flickr showing off his championship form. Amazingly, he has managed to keep his team costume in immaculate condition, no easy feat in these Games. Also in the Arena today were about 10 members of Team Hummie, working on their various aerial gymnastics routines as well as the Speed Pollinating trials (see HERE). And Team House Wren were were disqualified after officials saw them repeatedly taking small invertebrates into the nest box where tiny peeps could be heard. Sigh.
In human news...in an abundance of caution, I am heading out this afternoon to get a covid test. Last weekend I was quite near someone who claimed to have a cold and now I have a headache, scratchy throat and some congestion. As these are also symptoms for fully vaccinated people with the Delta variant of Covid 19, I thought it best to get tested just to rule out virus. Hubs is planning to see his mom this weekend and I don't want to take any chances. Besides, the test is easy and quick - I should have results tomorrow - and will give us both peace of mind.
Oh, and I just looked out the window to see Team Grackle getting ready for the seed eating time trials - must run!
Today's chocolate - dark with tart raspberries.
