The Beacon
Usha Gap, backblip 8
A walk on Oxnop Common, up to the slight ridge - really just a scattering of gritstone - at the top known as Blackstone Edge. The highest point on the ridge is marked by a large cairn, and a few hundred metres away is this even larger cairn, marked on the OS map as a Beacon. Just under 5 miles, and an easy walk on a bridleway there and back, but it seemed hard work in the heat - hardly a cloud in the sky, and no shade along the way. Worth it for the fabulous views from the top though!
Later, we drove to Richmond for some provisions for tomorrow's journey home. Sadly, the last day of our holiday, but it's been a great week in unbelievably good weather!
