Brass on the Grass

A family leaving the village after some forty odd years felt they wanted to leave a parting gift, and today we had the world famous award winning Cory Brass band playing a set on the village playing field. As it happens it's just over our garden hedge, but we showed our faces and enjoyed the afternoon - for a while.

I don't know if it's institutionalised lockdown or the fact that the infection numbers in South Gloucestershire are currently twice the national average, but we ultimately felt a little exposed amongst the four hundred or so villagers on the field, and retired to the front front garden and listened amongst the flowers between the apple tree and the oak tree.

The marque was set up for listening, not photography, but I liked this shot into the first trombone, showing some of the audience. Happily, they're mostly anonymous, because I didn't ask them for permission to publish... The Cory Band were however excellent and you could tell why they are considered the best in the world.
