Parallel Parking

Saturday

This is my 7/17 blip, backblipped on 7/21

We went to fill our gas tank in Granby today (Saturday) for the drive home.  It's so much easier when I don't have to pull the trailer through a gas station!  We stopped for ice cream and then looked in a few antique stores in town.  We didn't find any treasures but I did find a Silly Saturday blip. :-)

In the early evening we were entertained by jet skis and water skiers in the little bay near the campground.  They played until sunset and it was fun to watch them doing tricks.  The poor skier in my extra had a heck of a time getting up and when he finally did, it never lasted long.  He spent so much time in the frigid water.  I managed to catch him upright and you can see the burned hillside behind him.  That's how close the fire came to our campground!

Then, at about dusk, a pick up with a shell topper drove the wrong way up the road through the campground and stopped across from our site.  Four guys in their 20s got out and opened the back and started dragging out things that were crammed in there, including a partially assembled tent.  The people on the site next to us were already inside so they dragged all their stuff through their campsite and down to the shore where they started putting up their tent.  One of their group was reluctant (probably not as drunk as the others) so he came back up to the truck.  We told him they couldn't camp there and replied that they wouldn't listen to him.  PD told him that he was going to get the camphost to tell them, so he said he'd try again and walked down and we heard all kinds of loud voices.  Finally, we saw the tent being disassembled and they started dragging their things back up the hill.  They walked right through the middle of our campsite and were really nasty when we asked them to go around.  They walked between our truck and camper and got their things tangled up on our hitch.  Then they stuffed everything back into the truck and took off way too fast in the direction they came from.  We went to tell the camphost what happened and he was just getting back from the other end of the campground where someone had an illegal campfire.  He said the truck passed him and he yelled at them to slow down.  We were worried that they might come back and retaliate because we made them leave.  We were very grateful that they did not!  In all the years we've been camping there, we've never had anything like that happen!

Grand County is under a Stage 2 fire ban and that means no open flames of any kind outside.  The campers who had the fire were fined $1000 and kicked out of the campground by the sheriff.  They mean business!
