Scary times

A State of Emergency has been declared in BC because of "extremely volatile wildfire conditions".
"More than 3,100 people are currently involved in firefighting efforts, including firefighters from Alberta, Quebec and New Brunswick. Another 500 are expected to arrive this weekend, including 100 firefighters from Mexico....The federal government is also sending up to 350 military personnel to join the firefighting efforts....More than 3,000 people have already been ordered to evacuate their homes, and over 16,000 properties remain on evacuation alert."
There's no relief in sight, with high winds and no rain in the forecast. Air quality is terrible in much of the province and across Canada, with wildfires burning in other parts of the country too.
This sign is posted on the road down to Xwaaqw'um. We've been lucky here so far, although shifting winds are expected to bring smoke to the south coast as well. Our thoughts are with the firefighters who are doing such dangerous work and with people who have been evacuated or are on evacuation alert. So scary to think of losing everything, just like the people in Lytton did earlier this month.
