Barra

Barra is the most southerly island of the Outer Hebrides (although it is connected by a causeway to Vatersay a smaller island to its south- see extra). Barra itself has some wonderful beaches (see extra), but does not present as a wealthy place. It was good to see a CAB in its town, Castlebay, on the "main street'. At first sight the Main Street seemed to contain nothing much else apart from  a view to the castle in the bay and a Post Office, but closer inspection revealed the Cafe Kisimul. The young owners had relocated from Glasgow and adapted their cuisine to the local produce. The Scallops Pakora were outstanding and their reputation has quickly travelled far and wide.
