Sumac

Monday
Roger had another physiotherapy session this morning and Laura was out at a training session for her part time position tutoring at Huntington Learning center, then was going to meet a friend. When Roger got back, we went cycling on the tandem for a change, starting at Corwin for 16 miles return. As we were passing the Spring Valley wildlife area, there were several clumps of Sumac beside the trail. Smooth sumac is a North American native plant, found in 48 contiguous states. It grows to be a 10-20 ft. shrub with deciduous leaves which become extremely colorful in early fall. On female plants, yellow-green flowers are followed by bright-red, hairy berries in erect, pyramidal clusters which persist throughout winter.
