Grounded Swift

We went to my sister and brother - in - law’s in Frome and spent a very pleasant few hours in their garden over a long lunch.

They had seen a small bird in the garden yesterday, looking in distress and it suddenly reappeared scuffling along the flower bed.

I was pretty certain it was a swift and that they don’t normally come to earth. It certainly couldn’t fly and was happy to let us pick it up and give it water but we didn’t really know what to do with it. I suspect it was beyond help.

When I got home a quick Google search and visit to the Swift Conservation site confirmed my suspicions: once they are grounded it is very difficult to help them if you are not an expert.
