Nor’wester
A couple of days of a mild nor’wester has greatly reduced the snow on the mountains, though mostly they are covered by clouds. Castle Hill Peak is barely visible, but The Gap is on show.
The wet, warm weather has caused a lot of rain. A few weeks ago Canterbury (my home province) had “the worst floods in living memory.” Now the top of the South Island has had devastating floods, leaving many people homeless and hundreds of farm animals dead. On the West Coast, where annual rainfall is measured in metres, rather than millimetres, The floods have been, once again, “the worst floods in living memory.”
Weather extremes seem to be happening everywhere. It’s really quite alarming how global warming is speeding up.
