Shake It Off
Mostly heavy rain has fallen all morning long, but as mid-afternoon approaches it’s beginning to lighten and should move beyond us by late this afternoon. Certainly welcomed to further ease our drought • For more than an hour I watched a male and female hummingbird frolic and play in the backyard. Whenever the female visited the feeder, the male zoomed just close enough to move her along. Thankfully she did get a couple of quick sips in before escaping, with him following right behind, of course. During a couple of quiet moments she enjoyed the nectar from the big pot of nasturtiums we have on a stone wall • Both took rest breaks on the tomato cages too, enjoying the rain while also looking around for the other to appear • This ruby-throated male landed on the cage used by the climbing cucamelon. I captured him attempting to dry off his feathers, unfortunately a lost cause for the moment • Happy Sunday to you all :)
