Hidden Kent

A momentous day for eldest son Matt who scored his maiden ton in a match against Wateringbury. We went to watch but we’re too late to see the innings. An extra shows the scorebook for posterity.

Many congratulations to him from a very proud dad who was sorry to have missed it. He’s now performed better than I ever did in cricket. I didn’t make a ton, neither did I take a 5 for.

Matt came late to playing the game so he’s done really well. Unfortunately, despite scoring 230 runs, they lost on the second to last ball.

While he and his team were fielding we had a short 2 1/2 mile stroll around the village. We’ve passed through Wateringbury many times, never stopped to look. We both had to take things slowly as I’m still feeling the effects of the cellulitis and Susan has suddenly developed a clicking left knee.

Just outside the village on the Wateringbury Stream we found this idyllic spot, one of three water mills along this steam. It reminded us of several other such hidden scenes we’ve found in Kent this year. I’m hoping the house doesn’t belong to a Tory MP
