James Hamilton Geese
An excursion this morning to James Hamilton Heritage Park to find out about the possibility of supervised open water swimming. It turned into a leisurely amble around the human made loch which was strewn with Canada and Gray Lag geese, a healthy number of goslings, and a few fearless alpha swans; I also saw a young heron, I think, the black stripe on its head was absent.
There were a number of water sport lessons going on mainly dinghy sailing and kayaking. Apparently they had run open water classes for three weeks a while back, with very little interest. They intend having another go in a fortnight or so. I’m wondering if the state of the water is a bit of a drawback. With that in mind after yoga this afternoon (more ooming, again I suspect I was the only participant) I tried swimming with my face entirely out of the water and only managed half a length before my neck objected so I might need to rethink. There are many other much cleaner and clearer swimming spots.
Many blips to choose from today, I liked the way these slumbering geese reminded me of fur seals.
So in Scotland we do go down to level 0 on 19 July, thankfully with a number of restrictions, like face masks, still in place. I travel to England just after that date, it will be interesting to see what people do there. I have already received one reassuring communication from an accommodation in England stating that they will maintaining the current restrictions for the safety and wellbeing of everyone.
