Pink wood

A tree fell down on School Lane yesterday. Bea was exploring it and noticed the pink wood inside. I wonder what made it fall as it wasn't that windy. Perhaps the pink inside is a sign of disease? Or perhaps it is just normal - I haven't looked around many newly fallen trees before.
