Day 3 Norway
Trip up to the Nigardsbreen glacier tongue.
We slept in until after 9, unbelievable, but I think all the traveling caught up with us, and it was a very peaceful night on the campsite. The rain stopped by early morning, it was still cloudy, so after a late breakfast we drove up the road to the glacier information centre. What a fabulous building with cafe, looking right up to the Nigardsbreen glacier tongue. We paid to go around the exhibition, which was fantastic, everything to learn about glaciers, ice ages, settlers and wild animals. After the exhibition, we drove up to the car park where the track sets off up to the glacier. It was also possible to cut out some of the walk by taking a boat to the top of the glacial lake. It was a lovely walk up and down on the smooth boulders that have been worn down by the glacier. The view into the glacier was an iridescent blue, so beautiful.
After the hike we went back to the cafe for a coffee and waffles served with jam and sour cream. We cooked a lovely dinner of mashed potatoes with steak in a mushroom and onion creamy sauce on our single MSR stove, then went to watch the football, it was still full daylight even after the penalties. No further comment on the outcome.
