Not as planned
I meant to do some yard work today, clean up the cherry tree hedge. Yeah, that didn't happen. I stayed up a bit latter then I meant to last night and even though the puppies get up early that doesn't mean I can't go back to bed after a trip outside, which is what I did. When I did get up I did indoor things like the dishes, laundry and mopped the floor.
Today would have been my dad's 76th birthday if he hadn't passed last August. I made dad's birthday pie that we always made for him, kinda a cheater cheesecake. Then I took the pie and some brats, that cucumber/onion salad that grandma Bowen use to always make and went to see my mom. While my sister is away her boys, my nephews were home so we grilled up the brats and the five of us had lunch together. I did bring the puppies with me since my sister's house is full of dogs and I want them to start socializing with other dogs. As a first introduction I guess it went OK, for the most part they stayed in the little create that I transported them in let the big dogs sniff through the wire. Little Persephone did not like this one little bit, Willa after a bit of time tentatively wagged her tail and greeted the boxer through the cage. Neither of my pups wanted anything to do with the lab or the chiweenie. The lab is still a puppy herself, only about a year old for all her 80 pounds. The chiweenie was just barking loud which my pups didn't like.
I bought the girls home to a shady backyard so we could spend some time outside playing. Unfortunately the red tail hawk came back which cut our outside time short.
Birthday Pie:
One brick cream cheese
One can sweetened condensed milk
1/2 Cup lemon juice
1 tsp vanilla
Mix the above ingredients together and poor into
One graham cracker crust
Put in the fridge to chill, once set pour one can of cherry pie filling on top.
This go around I actually used a premade walnut crust from Dimond nuts which was pretty good. I've also used fresh fruit like strawberries, blueberries and while I never done it I'm sure something like mandarin oranges would be good on top too. Also that can of pie filling, I drain off most of the "filling" and just use the fruit.
Just in case someone felt like making pie.
