Yardbirds 50th Birthday Concert

Fantastic gig in the St Georges Suite at twickenham stadium. The Yardbirds played their first gig at the Eel Pie Hotel on Eel Pie Island supporting the Cyril Davis Group, and they were back here only a mile away and 50 years later. It started with some slightly surreal reminiscing from original members Chris Dreja, Jim McCarty, and Top Topham, and a 50th Birthday cake.

The new band is excellent producing a slightly harder/heaver rocking blues sound that does great versions of blues classics, yardbird classics and new yardbirds songs. They were joined later by various ex-Yardbirds. Highlights for me were Top Topham's guitar on a slow blues number, Alan Glen's harmonica and a song that "Jimmy did with his other band" - Dazed and Confused - Ben King is an awesome guitarist. I felt like I was watching the yardbirds/led Zeppelin at the end of the 60's. Apparently all former members of the Yardbirds were invited to the gig, but we didn't see Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck or Eric Clapton, but then we didn't need them.
