About to leave with uneaten food.
When studying Kestrels one spends an inordinate amount of time waiting for something to happen. This time is never wasted however - just by watching I have learned so much about their habits and behaviour and have a great respect for these wonderful birds. Here Mum has been into the nest with a vole. Not long before she arrived Dad flew in and dropped off a bird. Seconds after I took this photo she flew off with the vole - see my extra photo - I'm guessing that the chicks were not hungry, so rather than leave a dead vole in the nest she will hide it somewhere for later. I have seen them do this.
In my extra the tail of one of the chicks is just visible in the nest.
