Small Red
A busy afternoon surveying butterflies with 100+ observations and ten species on my woodland transect. I was hoping for a Purple Emperor but haven't seen one yet this year. I should have blipped one of the super fresh Silver-washed fritillaries but they were hurtling around too fast for me to photograph. Instead here's a Small Red damselfly (female) from an early morning spaniel walk on the Ashdown Forest. The Small Red really is small and, with a bit of a breeze blowing, presented its own photographic challenge.
