Moments Before Take Off

I sat in the garden for quite a while this afternoon trying to get a suitable bird take off shot for Mono Monday, but there were hardly any birds, and only a pigeon co-operated and then not very successfully. I decided to try my luck down in the town as I had to pootle down to buy some milk. I had an ideal shot of crows on wires lined up but for some reason couldn't get focus to work, They took off before I realised I had a variable focus spot set and the camera was focussing in the bottom corner of the frame. I had another go with this trio but missed the actual take off. Oh well.
