Panel 38 - Border Reivers - The Moon

Our Border Reivers panel features the rescue of Kinmont Willie, a member of the notorious Armstrong family, from Carlisle Castle in 1596. There are many famous Armstrong descendents, but surely the most famous of all was Neil Armstrong, first man on the moon. He was given the Freedom of Langholm, where the Reiver Armstrongs were based and where the Clan Armstrong still have their headquarters and historic home, Gilnockie Tower. We thought it would be good to mark this by adding a moon to our panel, and here it is, a stormy winter's night moon as the Reivers operated primarily during the dark winter months.
