Large Skippers #5
A beautiful day to start our week in Pembrokeshire and we chose to stay quite close to home and explore around Marloes and Martin's Haven. The coast is lovely, but as there are a lot of cliffs and my husband doesn't like heights, we didn't spend so much time on the coastal path. First we went from the car park down the lane to the first bird hide, but there weren't many birds around today apart from a few noisy sedge warblers and a couple of linnets. I thought that the sunshine might bring out a few more butterflies, but they were quite thin on the ground around there. The wildflowers were very pretty and we had a drink and an ice cream at Runwayskiln which was very nice. Then we headed off to the other bird hide, but again it was slim pickings, however the butterflies were out in force along the footpath to this one. We had our picnic and then after taking a wrong turn, we found ourselves at Martin's Haven instead of Dale, but had a nice wander around there instead. Due to the wind there were no boats going to Skomer today, so we are very nervous about our planned trip tomorrow. Please cross all your fingers and toes for us tomorrow. There are a few extras of sightings today - broad bodied chaser, beach at Marloes Sands, Wildflowers and Butterflies.
