Grey Squirrel

These are the 'good' squirrels. Unlike the massive underground army of ground squirrels, there are only a few of these and they are both well behaved and fun to watch. They forage around underneath the bird feeders and chase each other through the trees. This one has figured out how to get on to the feeder itself, despite the squirrel baffle, and eat undisturbed until he gets dive bombed by the woodpeckers.

Our weather has been much more comfortable today, and we have spent much of it outside. We started the day on our porch reading the paper, drinking coffee and watching the birds, the squirrels and a lone fox as they foraged for food and visited our birdbath for water. There have also been several bobcat sightings in the neighborhood. We seem to be making progress in controlling the ground squirrels. I know they aren't coming to the trap, but I have chosen not to ask how John is waging his war on them since I suspect I don't want to know the answer.

We went to  Montgomery Village to get John a pair of new shoes and a pair of pants for me. After a year in sweat pants and workout clothes, my former uniform of jeans suddenly feels less than comfy. Across the street, we went to the bookstore to get John a copy of A Premonition by Michael Lewis. It is the story of how the Covid crisis was handled, or mishandled or not handled at all, by the US government, and how a small group of free thinkers managed to turn things around . The review on the back cover says 'I would read a history of the stapler if it was written by Michael Lewis.'

Our little art store is going out of business so we went in and I bought some stretcher bars for a piece of fabric I ordered for a quilt which turned out to be upholstery fabric. As Kristin, the owner explained to me how to put together the stretcher bars she told us how she and her husband have worked hard for years ('we sleep at our house, but we live here in the store...') and are ready to retire. It has just been purchased from a local family by a Boston developer. It will be interesting to see what happens next....
