Day trip to Whitby

With Diana (Richard's sister) here on a rare visit, we're taking advantage of the wonderful weather.
Today's trip was to Whitby. The Abbey was looking beautiful in the sunshine, and was  a peaceful place to spend some time together.
The centre of Whitby, not so much... it's lovely, but I'd rather be there in the autumn or winter I think, without the congestion. 
On the way back, we stopped off in Goathland for an ice cream. This is a pretty village that Diana had previously thought of visiting with Jim, her late husband. It's the location of a TV series that they both liked, and is also a stop on the N York Moors heritage railway line. I think that for Diana, visiting places like this is a way to think let her thoughts, memories and feelings about Jim's death settle in her mind.
