Black Tailed Godwit #70
After seeing someone post about Lunt Meadows on FB yesterday, we decided to investigate what the current status was after it has been closed since the floods earlier in the year. Until now there has been a "temporarily closed" message on the FB page, but this is now no longer showing so I was quite hopeful. However when we arrived, the carpark is still blocked off indicating that nothing has changed which was very disappointing.
So, as we were halfway there, we headed to RSPB Marshside for an hour or so. It was actually a lot cooler than of late so we didn't walk very far at all - less than a mile - but my ankle seems OK after it's mini-outing.
There were not as many birds around as I remembered and the lack of black headed gulls was noticeable - normally there are loads on the scrapes/islands. Anyway, my favourite shot of the day was of this lovely black tailed godwit having a rest. You can see him a bit better in all his breeding plumage in extras.
