Bossington Village

We headed home this morning, stopping off for a walk at Porlock Weir and again in the nearby village of Bossington, which is part of the National Trust’s Holnicote Estate.

The village is very much picture postcard England, totally unspoilt and, apart from the cars, we could have travelled back any time in the last 100 or so years. The houses are notable for their distinctive chimneys and semi-circular protuberances which housed the original bread ovens but why they should have been particular to the village I don’t know.

Anyway, after a wander around the village and a stroll to the rocky beach we enjoyed coffee and cake in the excellent Kitnor’s Tea Garden.

There is an excellent walk starting from the village but after the exertion of the last two days we couldn’t face any more steep climbs so will save that for another day.
