Poppies
Poppies, always so cheerful and full of new hope for the spring. Fleeting they are, a stiff wind will blow off all the petals even if they have just opened it seems. I'm coming back after some time off. The last year has been rough on a lot of us I know. Last March my archery coach decided to retire fairly suddenly, that stung. My cat died July 16th of renal failure. My dad passed August 20th and while the death certificate said renal failure I would add in he was a non-compliant diabetic for many, many years. With Covid dad was cremated and we are going to have a burial this September in Oklahoma where he was born. My little Jumbo dog, who would have been 17 in May month passed away February 13th. Pixie, my last little dog, who had all sorts of medical issues passed away May 8th. She spent most of last year fighting her autoimmune disorder with too many trips to the veterinarian to count. Loosing her was truly heart breaking and I spent most of Saturday the 8th sobbing uncontrollably between looking for a new dog. Internet search for dogs was about the only thing that kept me kinda calm.
With spring comes new beginnings. I have found not one but two little new dogs, sisters. They are Shih Tzu/Maltese mixes just like my Pixie was. They were born April 10th of this year and have been with me a week now. The gods were looking out for me, the day I lost Pixie my vet who has known me for 20+ years was working a Saturday which doesn't always happen. Then I was able to meet the new girls just the day after Pixie died, the internet is sometimes an amazing thing. Originally I was just going to get one and I had chosen the name Persephone for her. Persephone is the Goddess of spring, spring so full of hope and renewal. Beginnings of good things. Persephone's mom is called Khione, the Goddess of Snowflakes. A week before I picked her up her sister came available, the people who originally said they would take her backed out. I brought her home too and have named her Willa. It truly felt that things lined up just as they should. My long time vet, who I consider a friend was available to help Pixie and I when we needed it most and then the new dogs came available when I needed them most. They are good little girls and I'm sure I will fill many of my blips with them soon. Willa is already coming and sitting when called. Persephone holds out for the treats but eventually comes in the end. You can find a picture of my girls in the extras. Persephone is the black who looks like a capuchin monkey while Willa is brown.
While the new girls are helping me to heal I still miss my Pixie.
