Sheep and buttercups

Another sheep tale.
A story of not being in the right place.

The sheep are pretty boring now, even the lambs, who ran about and entertained us . . . have turned into boring sheep. However, there is the on-going saga of the escapees. There should not be sheep in the buttercup field, but somehow they get through the fence (not a well-kept fence by any stretch of the imagination) and arrive where the grass is greener. We are not sure whether it is the same sheep or different ones, we are not even sure how many there are in this field now. The only time they get upset is when the farmer comes with food, but they soon realise that, even if they miss out on the food, they are better off in the lush grass. Once the farmer tried to move one, but as he only wandered around in his quad chasing it, this failed and he left it.

Appleby Horse Fair was postponed until August this year, but many travellers have turned up on the usual June weekend and their horses are all over the place. The field they use is closed and they are not able to take their horses into the water as the ramp has gone, but they have turned up anyway and parked their vans all over the roads. We had been told that they would be turned back if they tried to arrive, but the police can apparently do nothing, or are not prepared to do anything.
