Turbot
I hadn't spotted the turbot on the fishmonger's slab before we bought plaice for tea. It had plenty of meat on it and compared with this winter's prices was reasonably priced.
It's a beautiful fish to study. The skin is dark and mottled. The fishmonger said it had been brought from near Norway where the rocks were volcanic so the sandy bottom is also dark. The colouration is a good camouflage as is the texture of the skin which the fishmonger told me is bumpy.
He said that the colouration reminded him of the stars in the night sky, a terrific analogy.
After the market we went to sit with Colin in his lovely garden (extra). I took photos for his end of year book.
