Emprisonnée: premier jour

I officially have not gone outside today.

This photograph is a view from my window, even though I have taken it in sunnier circumstances before, and defiantly a window shot.

Snow Day number one involved me waking up early, checking the public transport site and seeing everything was cancelled followed by calling the school to find out it was closed for the day. Had a bit of an adrenaline rush at having a day off when I'm usually in for 8 hours, and stayed up for a while having a chat to other people in the same situation...which was followed by an unashamed nap.

Taking advantage of an unexpected day off work, I did all the things that I have been meaning to do for a long while...and I have to say, my apartment has not been this clean for a long while! Had some lovely chats with similarly stranded people, including Gaëtan, Sam (not stuck, being in China, but lovely to talk to nevertheless!), Clare, Mathieu and Tobias (also not stuck, being in Munich). The funniest thing about today has to be the fact that as everyone is stuck inside, the dress code seems to have turned to; "It's snowing...sod it, wear shorts and flip-flops". Rather entertaining to see when there is a snowstorm outside!

Finished 'The Importance of Being Ernest' today, and fell in love again with the wit and intelligence of Oscar Wilde...including such gems as, 'If I am occasionally a little over-dressed, I make up for it by being always immensely over-educated.' as well as his views of love and marriage; something that more than speaks to me, 'I really don't see anything romantic in proposing. It is very romantic to be in love. But there is nothing romantic about a definite proposal. Why, one may be accepted. One usually is, I believe. Then the excitement is all over. The very essence of romance is uncertainty. If ever I get married, I'll certainly try to forget the fact.' Not that I don't believe in long-term love or anything like that, I come from a family of married people...my parents being the perfect example...but there is just something about first falling in love with someone, and getting to know them and all that jazz, that is just really...exciting. Sorry to get all philosophical!

Spent my evening on Skype to my lovely mother and we were joined by dad a bit later on. Great to talk to them, even though it was strange to see just how sunny it was in the North of England! The rest of the evening was spent relaxing, and trying not to move my leg...if I need to walk around a lot in snow, I need it to be more functional!

Not sure whether I want another snow day tomorrow, now the novelty of having a lie-in instead of working has worn off...
