lifting my eyes to the hills
Since I had to drive a ridiculous amount of miles to get my 2nd Covid vaccination this morning, I thought I'd make the most of it and go for a nice walk afterwards. But where? So many wonderful choices in beautiful Galloway. Should I head south to Scotland's booktown and Wigtown Bay? Or further into the Machars to visit Whithorn and St Ninian's Cave? Or up into the Galloway Forest? I was so tempted by the hills and considered going up Merrick as it was such a glorious day, but decided it might be too much if I started feeling some side effects coming on.
In the end I decided to head to Glentrool and to walk around the Loch, but this was not to be since the path on the south side (where Robert the Bruce won the Battle of Glentrool in 1307) was closed for forestry operations. Instead I walked from Caldons Wood along the Water of Trool on part of the Southern Upland Way and back across the Stroan Bridge and up onto the forest walks on the north side, from where I took this photo of the Minigaff Hills.
D had also had his second vaccination today, in Thornhill, not so far from home. We're both feeling ok so far but I'm not going drumming tonight; I feel I've done enough for today and I'm working tomorrow :-)
Todays walk: Glentrool Yellow Loop plus a bit extra 7.03 miles
