Diversion
There was only a dusting of snow at home in Argyll this morning, but it was very cold - minus 5.5 at the top of the Glen.
However south of Glasgow the snow was much thicker and a series of accidents on the M74 had closed the motorway, which was a problem as I was due in Dumfries at 11.00 to open the new Crichton Institute.
We diverted via Lanark in order to join the M74 after the main blockage but the snow was even thicker in South Lanarkshire - this is the view. (between heavy snow showers) from the main road looking up towards the village of Cartland. Further south still , and back on the motorway, there were several miles of queuing traffic coming north as a result of a lorry which had overturned.
Amazingly I was only 40 minutes late at the Crichton , though I got later still coming back up to Edinburgh as I had to take the long way via Moffat and Broughton. Snow flurries continued until mid afternoon and now the pavements in the city are icy once again as the temperature drops.
