Rambling in North Hampshire
This morning two friends took us for a most interesting walk around the village of Hurstbourne Tarrant (north of Andover), over the downs, and through woodland filled with bluebells and wild garlic flowers. The thatched cottage is in the village itself, with the river ( a winterbourne) flowing in front.
During our walk we visited Ashmansworth, which at 240 m above sea level, makes it Hampshire's highest village, and neighbouring Crux Easton, with its unusual wind engine. Crux Easton Wind Engine (see first extra ). We had lunch at the George and Dragon pub in Hurstbourne Tarrant before driving home, through the Bourne Valley with its watercress beds, and by the River Test, by when it had started to rain.
Second extra is of topiary in Ashmansworth and third extra is a view of the North Hampshire downs from the footpath.
