Exploring

Woke to sunshine...thank goodness! Cheered us up and we got ourselves sorted and set off south, having equipped ourselves with coffee and doughnut/cinnamon bun for the journey. More overcast by the time we arrived in Melrose, but still glimpses of sun, dry, and brighter than yesterday. We started by taking in Scott’s view with fabulous views of the Eildon hills and the River Tweed (and with some strange shrines amongst the gorse...no idea why). Then we headed down into the town and had a wander around the ruined Abbey and museum. Loved the fragments of tiled floor still in place on the chapter room floor, imagining all the feet that have walked across it over the centuries.
Into town, via a lovely orchard garden, and mooched around the various shops, whilst a group of musicians played in the square. All felt buzzy and pretty upbeat. We had time to kill so headed out to Abbotsford, Walter Scott’s home by the Tweed, and enjoyed a walk through the gardens full of gorgeous mature trees.
Back into town for lunch at Provender. We’d thought to have an a la carte lunch but ended up having the set lunches and sharing each dish. Delicious, very reasonable price, and friendly place.
Set off home and stopped at the lighting shop for S to get inspiration for her renovations...some lovely ideas alongside the many chandeliers!
Settled ourselves down to watch Nomadland which was slow but beautifully filmed and acted, then S caught up on some Crown episodes.
