At the end of the pier.

Saltburn by the sea and the last remaining pier in Yorkshire.

Raining again when we left, but fortunately cleared up by the time we reached Saltburn.
We like this town with it’s old fashioned Victorian charm.
We haven’t been for a few years and we’re surprised to see so many surfers in the sea, enjoying the the waves.
So good to see the sea again.
The heyday of this town was in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s.
The two buildings in the collage were very grand hotels opened around 1863.
Now both converted to apartments.

Enjoyed a bracing walk out along the pier, which opened in 1869.
There is a Cliff Lift/ Tramway so that people don’t have to climb the steep steps to reach the town.
Unfortunately this is still closed, but hopefully will reopen for the summer season.

Also closed was the Seaview seafood restaurant where we were hoping to have lunch.This is being extended and refurbished.
So after a walk round the town we decided to have lunch at the Spa Hotel. Well timed as the heavens opened just as we sat down.
Decided to call it a day after lunch and it hasn’t stopped raining since.

However the highlight of the day has to be the otter.
8.30pm sat watching The Great British Menu.
I glanced through the patio doors, and saw what at first looked like a small dog, but immediately realised it was an otter. Running along the grass between the caravan and the river.
Jumped up and saw it disappear near the bridge. Fortunately MrC managed to see it too.
What a thrill, and a first for both of us.
