Edinburgh old and new - and Alfie and Lexi
This is probably not the best view of a recent change to Edinburgh's skyline, but it was the one I got today. I went into town for the first time since before Christmas for an optician's appointment and then decided to head to John Lewis and take in the new view on route. The building in the foreground is the head office of the Royal Bank of Scotland, and the spiral behind it belongs to the W Hotel in the new St James Quarter development which also includes flats, shops, restaurants and a cinema. The first phase is scheduled to open in late June. Some people hate the spiral and it's got a couple of nicknames, the Walnut Whip and the Golden Turd, but I'm not sure, I think I quite like it. I would like to see it from Arthur's Seat and some other viewpoints. I'm not sure what I think of this billion pound development opening while the world is still grappling with the pandemic but I suppose the world was different place when construction started around five years ago.
I've now added an extra where Lexi is poised to jump on Alfie on my bed but as always, no harm was done.
