Tulips for Tapping

This morning I drove over to Hillingdon, which is not too far from Sandringham, to have a look at the gorgeous tulips being grown in a 21 acre field by Norfolk Tulips. They are open to the public by advance ticket (sold out) to raise much needed money for The Norfolk Hospice Tapping House which is nearby. There are approx 12m tulip bulbs which were planted in Oct and will be harvested in the Summer. Then they’ll be dried, sorted and stored until they’re made into flowers in the winter. It was a glorious sight, everyone had a smile on their face. I’ve also added a couple of extras.

Day 415 /  Day 24 of Step 2 of Roadmap Easing (for my record only
Two members of the delegation from India for the G7 foreign ministers meeting in the UK have tested positive. The whole delegation from India are now self isolating (they’re a guest delegation). Good to see our testing control in the UK worked, but I’d be interested to hear if they had to provide proof of a negative test before entering the UK. The WHO reports that India had about half of the world’s new cases last week and a quarter of reported deaths. The WHO also says wealthy nations should give vaccines to other countries rather than giving a third booster jab - I disagree with this if the risk from new variants justifies a booster for those most at risk. Excellent news that the Govt is investing £29.3m into state of the art testing laboratories for PHE at Porton Down for the testing of vaccines and variants. An ONS survey has shown levels of depression have more than doubled since before the pandemic, with big rises amongst younger people, those with a disability, those in single person households and those with children under 16.
