Chinese Bulbul uncovers something tasty

On my as yet unsuccessful quest for a shot of the huge black butterfly, I was ready with my camera by 8.30 and managed to take one of this Chinese Bulbul, who was plucking the red berries from inside this seed pod. I’d love to know the name of the plant. It seems likely that he’d ripped the pod open too given the state of the pods nearby but I have no other evidence of that.

Extra is from walking the dogs down by the still-quiet beach. This is a male Oriental Magpie Robin. He looks more Magpie and less Robin when he isn’t cocking his tail.
