The Eye Has It
WMD, not the Tony Blair type of excuse for war but Wet Macular Degeneration, fortunately in one eye only, my right.
Many people have it, or the worse form, Dry Macular Degeneration, I’m fortunate to have the wet version in one eye only and as I still have pretty good corrected sight in my left eye I get by fine. The visit to the macular clinic this morning went well, eye drops for eight weeks to prevent glaucoma and the next appointment in twelve weeks. A kind of masculine pride led me to taking a photograph of the test screen so as to memorise it and get a better result.
In doing so I could make the same mistake of a famous Admiral of recent years. In his formative years the young logistics branch officer was desperate to transfer to the seaman specialist branch in order to obtain a sea going command the only problem was his dodgy eyesight. Having memorised the eye test board he went confidently in to the test. He reeled off the answers and sat back quietly confident until the medical officer told him; “amazing eyesight, you have just read next doors test board”.
Today’s extra, the Veterans Gig, Epic Energy, nearing completion. Great work by EPIC GIGability to get this far.
