After blipping yesterday’s tree I decided to go to Dalkeith Park where there are well over a hundred Ancient and Veteran trees recorded many of which are over 400 trees old and some are over 700. If this oak could talk it could possibly tell of watching older trees being felled when James IV ordered oak more than 500 years ago for the largest warship which had ever been built at the time Perhaps Charles I rode beneath its branches during his regular hunting trips here but then it would probably be in its prime unlike today when very little of it remains yet there are still branches with new leaves unfurling. Although it does not look very big it still has a girth of 7.13 metres according to the Inventory but it is hard to estimate its age but could be 700 years old.
